Division (Code 9163) is soliciting manufacturers of electronic
equipment racks to be used on U.S. Naval Platforms. The subject
electronic equipment rack shall meet the requirements of: 1)
MIL-S-901D-SHOCK TESTS. H.I. (HIGH IMPACT) SHIPBOARD MACHINERY
EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS, REQUIREMENTS FOR 2) MIL-STD-454 GENERAL
GUIDELINES FOR ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT 3) MIL-STD-130J IDENTIFICATION
MARKING OF U.S. MILITARY 4) MIL-P-53022B PRIMER, EPOXY COATING,
CORROSION INHIBITING,LEAD & CHROMATE 5) MIL-STD-2073/1D DOD STANDARD
PRACTICE FOR MILITARY PACKAGING 6) MIL-STD-129N MILITARY MARKING 7) EIA
RS-310, RACKS, PANELS AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT All electronics
equipment enclosures shall be designed to accommodate the installation
of electronics components designed in accordance with the mounting
specifications of the Electronic Industry Association (EIA)
specification EIA RS-310, RACKS, PANELS, & ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT. The
racks must be COTS products, readily available, and require limited or
no engineering redesign/modification to meet the requirements. The
electronics equipment racks shall: a) Have exterior dimensions no
larger than 24.25 inches wide, 29.25 inches deep and 62 inches high.
Interior equipment mounting angles shall be 17.75 inches edge to edge.
Hole center to center distance between mounting rails shall be 18.3125
inches and mounting holes shall be sized and spaced in accordance with
EIA specification RS-310. b) Be capable of withstanding MIL-S-901D,
Grade A, shock testing. In addition, the following requirements must be
adhered to: 1) Exterior channels shall be constructed of 14 guage cold
rolled steel and have a minimum of six ninety-degree bends for
rigidity. Channels shall be open enough to allow for installation of
0.1875 inch thick steel backing plates or angle by the end user. If
channels do not allow sufficient access for installation of steel
backing plates, welded plates shall be installed during construction to
allow shock isolator attachment tothe base of the rack. 2) Vertical
mounting rails shall be adjustable horizontally within the enclosure as
well as vertically. Design must allow for installation of more than two
sets of mounting rails in various configurations. 3) Vertical mounting
rails shall be available for ordering in both a threaded and
non-threaded hole configuration. 4) Design must allow for the
installation of a flush mounting door with locking capability. 5)
Design will incorporate flush mounting side panels with louvers. Panels
shall be attached to framework with metal screws. Louver arrangements
will vary from fully louvered to partially louvered either at the top
or bottom. The final louver configuration will be dependent upon the
final installed location of the equipment. 6) Design will allow for
installation of either a solid mounting panel in the rear of the
enclosure or a flush mounted door. 7) Design will allow for
installation of top and bottom covers. 8) Side panels, doors, and top
or bottom panels shall not be an integral structural member of the
overall rack enclosure. They are intended for cosmetic and security
purposes only. The rack enclosure must pass the requirements of
MIL-S-901D without these attachments. 9) Rack load carrying capability
must be 1200 lbs minimum. This announcement is issued to consider all
potential sources and does not oblige the Government to award a
contract. Descriptive literature, such as specifications, drawings, and
technical requirements can be forwarded to Christopher Conlon, P.E.,
