Wilgus, Contracting Officer, (301) 402-3070 The National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health intends to negotiate with Perkin-Elmer Biosystems, 850 Lincoln Centre Drive, Foster City, CA 94404, to furnish various reagents for fluorescent-based automated DNA sequencing using ABI Prism 3700 instruments. It is anticipated that any resultant contract will be for a period of 12 months with four successive 12-month option periods. The provided supplies are proprietary and commercial as defined in FAR Part 2. Perkin-Elmer Biosystems is the only known source capable of providing the required supplies. This action is under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1 and HHSAR 306.302-1. Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. Interested parties may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all proposals received within 15 days after publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determintion by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to thisnotice is solely within the discretion of the Government. information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
