The Caribbean National Forest is seeking landline maintenance services to re-establish boundary lines obliterated by Hurricane Georges. The project will consist of refurbishing 28.88 miles of existing boundary line, including: clearing the property lines, blazing trees not previously blazed, re-painting and re-posting the boundary lines, maintaining existing corner monuments, replacing approximately ten missing monuments, restoring corner accessories (bearing trees or witness trees), and preparing corner record forms. As a result of the wind damage from the Hurricane Georges in the fall of 1998, the landline clearing will involve brush and shrub cutting and logging out fallen trees that cross the boundary line, to the extent required to perform posting and marking. Work is expected to begin approximately May 1, 2000 with a performance time of 365 calendar days. Work will be performed in accordance with Forest Service Southern Region standard specifications for landline maintenance. Work shall be performed under the direction of a land surveyor registered in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. See CBD Note 24 for complete information on the A&E selection process.
