384-7352 The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) anticipates
issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) in February 2000 for the
performance of research and development in the area of parabolic trough
technology development for concentrating solar power markets. The
primary objectives of the project are to advance the state-of-the-art
of parabolic trough technology, integration, analysis, and services to
improve the U.S. competitiveness of the technology and to increase the
U.S. scope and/or quantity of near-term and long-term domestic and
international trough projects. The scope for proposed work efforts may
consider any of a wide range of topics related to trough technology
including, but not limited to, component design and/or development,
systems analysis, development of advanced manufacturing processes,
system integration, development of unique engineering capabilities, and
development of unique data and analysis capabilities. Proposals for
larger projects with potential for significant advances in the
development of trough technology are desirable and will be given
priority over smaller, less comprehensive project proposals. Multiple
awards are anticipated under fiscal year 2000 funding level of $200,000
to $400,000. Additional funding at similar levels may be available in
subsequent fiscal years. There is a minimum of 10% cost sharing or
price participation required from offerors. This Commerce Business
