Administrative Officer is evaluating a program to replace its aging
furniture stock. Over the past decade, standard swivel armchairs are
being replaced by modern ergonomic seating. It is necessary that the
House now consider all alternatives incuding modular or systems
furniture. The contractor shall work with the Furniture Resource Center
task group and consult with a reprsentative from the Superintendent of
Buildings in assembling focus groups to identify basic user
requirements. Focus groups shall consist of representatives from Member
office staffs of the three House office buildings (Rayburn, Longworth
and Cannon), Committee staffs and support staffs. The contrctor shall
efine what constitutes a user's workstation at the House. The
contractor shall identify user needs, such as various work surface
configurations, task lighting, storage, filing, and ergonomics. The
results should include findings for each of the three groups -- Member
offices, Committee Staff offices, and Support staffoffices. The
contractor shall evaluate the present condition and functionality of
the existing furniture for Member offices, Committee offices, support
staff offices, and open work areas; and evaluate the current furniture
relative to ergonomic performance, computer use, handicapped
accessibility and compliance with applicable laws, standards and
