Simplified Acquisition Procedures for two (2) each open top metal A4W
container. The container is metal, open top and open side with positive
closure lid and gasket. Overall approximate outside dimensions are 100"
wide X 100" long X 220" high. Payload capacity shall be 90,000 lbs
(excluding the weight of the container) Dot 7A tpe a container shall be
used for storage and shipment of Type A quantity of dry radioactive
waste, full compliance with 49 CFR. The container shall be a
rectangular metal container capable of being lifted, loaded and stored
in the vertical and horizontal positions, as well as having the
capability of being rotated from vertical to horizontal and from
horizontal to vertical while empty or loaded. The container shall meet
or exceed all requirements of Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49,
specifications of DOT 7A Type A container. The vendor will be required
to provide documentation of all calculations and testing results. The
vendor will be required to provide five (5) sets of engineering
drawings to NNSY for review and approval including calculations
supporting lifting lugs, D-rings, and their attachment welds' strength
and safety factors. The container shall have a position bolted closure
system for securing the top and side. The containers shall have a
gasket for sealing the top and side. The containers shall be provided
with all necessary hardware. All hardware shall be fabricated from
materials which are compatible with the containers and whice will not
cause adverse chemical or galvanic reactions. The container shall be
fabricated from steel per ASTM-A-36 or ASTM-A-668. The container lid
shall have four (4) removable D-rings to facilitate removal and
handling of the lid. The maximum weight of the assembled empty
containers shall not exceed 25,000 lbs. Vendor shall provide padeye and
D-ring dimensions, material type and weld size on drawings submitted to
NNSY. FOB is destination, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA. RYG
will be incorporated in the quotation. Fax and/or phone requests are
not allowed and will not be considered. All requests for copies of the
quotation must be in writing and submitted via regular or expedited
