On behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) anticipates negotiating one or more license agreements with U.S. companies interested in commercializing a device which is a unique "UV only" concentrator for use in ultra-accelerated (100 x) weathering applications. The concenrator was designed to provide a highly uniform flux distribution that is critical for controlled exposure of materials in weathering applications. This work can significantly enhance the advancement of solar processes by utilizing the unique analytical and manufacturing capabilities at SDB Solto Astrophysica of Moscow, Russia and the solar application development experience at NREL. The successful optical design was a collaborative effort between SDB Solto Astrophysica of Moscow and NREL for the design of a unique faceted concentrator design (joint invention report submitted to NREL) that delivers highly uniform flux to the target. The level of flux can be easily adjusted by simple changesin target location and facet aiming. Astrophysica designed the multi-layer optical coating and fabricated the facets and support structure. The facets and structure were shipped to NREL where it was assembled and tested in NREL's High-Flux Solar Furnace. The interested U.S. company will have to establish a collaborative effort with SDB Solto Astrophysica of Moscow, Russia for the successful ommercialization of the concentrator.
