COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 1,2000 PSA#2547UNCOOLED INFRARED DETECTOR, TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITY Sandia
National Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico, has invented an
Uncooled Thin Film IR Detector with Aerogel Thermal Isolation
(SD-5782). The detector utilizes a multilayered thin film deposition
scheme and novel materials to create a monolithic thin film imaging
element on an active silicon substrate. This approach combines a thin
film bolometric imaging element with a thermally insulating aerogel
thin film to produce a new type of uncooled IR sensor that offers
significantly higher thermal, spatial, and temporal resolutions at a
substantially lower cost per unit. Sandia is making this technology
available to companies interested in further developing and maturing
this technology into a market-ready product. An interested party should
anticipate funding a multi-year, research and development project at
Sandia to further develop the technology. Licensee(s) should have
proven business development skills and possess the financial capability
to bring the technology to market. Successful licensee(s)will have a
proven track record of securing funding, assembling multidisciplinary
teams of scientists and engineers, and providing management structure
to these teams during development and marketing. Successful licensee(s)
should also possess strong experience in patent law and the legal
protection of inventions and technology in the United States and
abroad. The basic invention could be transferred to the successful
licensee on an exclusive or partially exclusive basis, depending upon
the needs of the parties. For further information, please respond by
