The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport intends to award a sole source contract to HydroAcoustics, Inc. for five (5) HLF-1 Interface Boards for use in an AASP electronic control unit. HydroAcoustics, Inc. manufactures the HLF-1 transducer and holds proprietary rights to the transducer and its interface. A substitution for a unit made by another manufacturer at this time would seriously impair the ability of the AASP program to continue its present level of fleet support. The testing required to ensure proper operation would require extensive time and funding because hardware and software changes to the system would be required, which will ultimately delay fleet support. Award will be made approximately 2000 March 17. This is a combined synopsis/solicitation and no formal solicitation will be issued. A Firm Fixed Price type contract is anticipated.
