of the Division of Caner Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) of the
National Cancer Institute (NCI)intends to negotiate with the University
of The West Indies to extend the period of performance and increase the
dollars awarded under Contract No. N01-CP-40548 to continue and expand
a longitudinal Family Study of persons with ATL, HAM/TSP and ID by
following them and their family members; and to continue and expand a
longitudinal study of HTLV-I infected and uninfected women and their
offspring. Authority: 41 USC 253 (c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1.
Numbered Note 22 applies as follows: The proposed contract action is
for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit
and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 6.302.
Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to
respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent
is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all proposals
received withinforty-five days (thirty days if award is issued under an
existing basic ordering agreement) after date of publication of this
synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the
Government not to compete with this proposed contract based upon
responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the
Government. Information receivedwill normally be considered solely for
the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive
