ENSEMBLE, SOURCES SOUGHT. The Naval Sea Systems Command is conducting
a market survey to determine the existence of interested sources, both
foreign and domestic, that have developed an ensemble that would be
worn over Navy clothing to protect a sailor from the effects of cold
water in a flooded shipboard compartment. The equipment must be
Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) or a Non -Developmental Item (NDI)
which is ready for operational evaluation and has in service usage data
available. The ensemble should keep the sailor dry and allow him to
work in 40-degree Fahrenheit water for 45 minutes. All interested
sources should provide pertinent information concerning current in
house capabilities and practices, quality control/quality assurance,
demonstrated ability, and a listing of commercial and military
customers for whom similar work has been demonstrated. The listing
should include contract numbers, points of contact, and a work
description. This announcement is a request for information only and is
not a Request for Proposal (RFP) or announcement of solicitation.
Companies responding to this notice will be placed on a bidders list
should the Navy issue a subsequent solicitation requesting proposals
for test articles. A potential exists for follow on procurements for up
to 2000 units starting in 2002. The government will not provide payment
for any material provided in response to this synopsis, nor will the
Government return the data provided. All data will be for official
Government use only. Responses are requested within 30 days after
