COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 7,2000 PSA#2551REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ON DIGITAL ORTHOIMAGERY FOR ALASKA This is a
request for information only. Response to this notice is not an offer
and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract.
The U. S. Geological Survey does not presently intend to award a
contract but wants to obtain price, delivery, and other market
information for planning purposes for the Alaska Digital Orthoimagery
Initiative which would provide government agencies, native villages,
and the general public with statewide digital orthoimagery coverage.
The contractor will be required to provide 5-meter color infrared (CIR)
digital orthoimagery for the entire state and 1-meter CIR digital
orthoimagery over special interest areas. These special interest areas
are: 1) The urbanized areas of the ten largest cities, rather than the
corporate limits, 2) A two square-mile area centered over 224 Alaska
Native Claims Settlement Act recognized Native Villages, 3) A two
square-mile area centered over five areas identified as "Ports and
Ferry Docks," and 4) Areas extending one mile on each side of "Major
Roads" and the "Trans-Alaska Pipeline." A map of Alaska showing
locations of all required sites is available at the Alaska Geographic
Data Committee home page (http://agdc.usgs.gov). The data must be in
the public domain and free of any licensing restrictions. The digital
orthoimagery will be in metric coordinates, projected on the UTM
projection, NAD 83 datum, and formatted to Alaska quarter-quad
coverages, nominally 7.5-minutes, with standard USGS headers and
overedge, and meet National Map Accuracy Standards. The imagery
collection will be during leaf-on, snow-free (except in permanent snow
areas), and near cloud-free seasons over a four-year period. The
Government will furnish any existing digital elevation data and field
control data. The purpose of this announcement is to invite all
qualified professional architect-engineering firms to submit cost
estimates and other information for completing the necessary work
within a four-year time period in order to determine the funding levels
needed for this requirement. Please submit your cost estimates and
other information by March 31, 2000. "Refined" cost estimates and
proposals are not necessary. Submit your information to: U.S.
