Commodities Using Volume Purchasing (Aggregation) and Reverse
Auctioning." Description: The Federal Technology Service, Office of
Information Technology Integration intends to establish an electronic
web-enabled auction exchange community, called buyers.gov, which will
include three new approaches to selling commodities to federal
customers; (1)Private Buyer Auctions; (2) Volume Purchasing (called
eFAST), which includes Supplier to Buyer Aggregation, and (3)Quick
Quotes. This multi-faceted approach will use commercially available
automated tools to streamline and conduct a new form of negotiation
strategy for the procurement of information technology commodities.
This exchange or portal is called "buyers.gov" and has the officially
registered web address: http://buyers.gov. The Office of Information
Technology Integration (OITI) is issuing this announcement to invite
all industry resellers to an information sharing session beginning at
10:00 a.m. EST on March 17th at the GSA Auditorium located at 18th and
F Street, Washington, D.C. The purpose of the meeting will be to share
information with IT resellers of commodities (computers, laptops,
printers, monitors, etc.)regarding volume purchasing (eFAST) and
reverse auctioning at buyers.gov. Using the auctioning and volume
purchasing concept, the orders should be large, and can come from
single customers or can be aggregated orders from many federal buyers.
Parameters and reseller requirements will be shared and identified for
the implementation of Buyers.gov. Buyers.gov will provide Federal
Technology customers and government agencies with an easy-to-use tool
to conduct auctions and to aggregate similar products from multiple
customers throughout government, compare prices; make a decision as to
which FTS vendor partner solution represents the best price and/or
value; and place an order online with selected reseller(s). If you are
an industry reseller interested in defining commodities to be sold
through volume purchasing on buyers.gov and intend to participate,
please reserve a space by e-mailing Tim Kramer (tim.kramer@gsa.gov) and
Sarah Fiduk (sarah.fiduk@gsa.gov). Please make the subject of the
e-mail "Buyers.gov." Please register before March 15, 2000. This is not
a formal solicitation but an announcement to share information with
interested resellers. The Government will not reimburse companies for
costs incurred in responding to this announcement or attendance at the
conference. Posted 03/08/00 (D-SN432353). (0068) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0038 20000310\D-0014.SOL)
