The National Institute of Standards & Technology(NIST) proposes to negotiate on a sole source basis contract under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) with Custom Microwave for the fabrication of an assembly to be used in a national noise standard. It is absolutely essential that the components and complete assembly be machined and constructed with the utmost precision. The horn portion of the standard was built about ten years ago by Custom Microwave, therefore, the new assembly must accommodate the existing horn. The other critical factors include: 1) Precision machining to achieve vary small tolerances for the design (plus or minus 0.0005 cm or plus or minus 0.0002 inches in some cases). 2) The interior of the central stainless steel tube requires a mirror finish. 3) Because the specially built dewar, which houses the carborundum wedges and the stainless steel tube is built elsewhere, the company building the assembly must be local and capable of working with the builder of the dewar and must be able to incorporate the dewar into the assembly without scratching the dewar. This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. This synopsis is issued for information only. No competitive solicitation is planned..
