The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service seeks a contract for the capture and disposition of approximately 400 feral horses from the vacinity of the Badger Fire, Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge. Contractor must provide for safe and humane capture, removal, transport and disposition of animals, and must comply with all State and Federal laws and regulations regarding transportation of horses. Horses must be placed through adoption or otherwise provide for their long-term welfare in a manner that prevents slaughter for the meat market to the maximum extent possible. Contractor may NOT use motorized equipment (helicopters or other aircraft, trucks, all-terrain vehicles, etc.) to capture horses on the refuge. Contractor will provide all feed, water and mineral supplements for captured horses and saddle horses used in capture. Issue date is approximately March 31, 2000. The issue date is an estimate.
