Wolfe, Jr, 304/285-5883 The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), in Morgantown, WV, is currently involved in a project to examine whether individuals who have been exposed to beryllium have become sensitized to it. This requirement is for the vendor to perform a laboratory screening blood test, Beryllium Lymphocyte Proliferation Test (BLPT). The quantity is 200 tests by 9/30/2000 and the option for an additional 200 tests to be performed by 6/30/2001. The successful vendor must be able to receive, process and analyze a minimum of 10 samples per work day and must be able to provide written and/or electronic results. Vendors must also be able to receive samples for analysis on workdays: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to be considered. This BLPT test is important to identify individuals with sensitization who may have or develop chronic beryllium disease to ensure that they obtain appropriate follow-up and medical care. The Government intends to split each individual's sample and send it to twoseparate laboratories for processing. This will allow each test to be verified and the sensitivity of the test to be monitored. For this reason, the Government intends to make identical awards to two selected vendors. The entire scope of work and evaluation considerations for this project are addressed in the solicitation.
