S -- - NOTICE OF INTENT TO NEGOTIATE A SOLE SOURCE CONTRACT. Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with Dr. John Bickham for the National Marine Mammal Lab (NMML). Purpose of contract is to quantify the amount of genetic differentiation among populations or subspecies of the Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus). NMML is continuing studies to determine Steller sea lions populations or subspecies. The goal of proposed contract is to provide interpretation of analysis of genetic material from Steller sea lions and to provide a report summarizing recent analysis and integrating them with past studies. Proposed contract is for period 2000-2002 (three fiscal years). Proposed contractor assisted in development of mtDNA sequence analysis using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) techniques. Proposed contractor has also been instrumental in development of techniques and interpretation of the results.
