S -- - NOTICE OF INTENT TO NEGOTIATE A SOLE SOURCE CONTRACT. Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with the Maui Pacific Center (MPC) for the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary (the Sanctuary). Purpose of contract is to provide conference planning and management of the First International Marine Debris Conference to be held in Honolulu, HI form 8/6/00-8/11/00. The MPC is the only known Hawaiian-based organization whose mission mirrors the Planning Committee's in that "the mission of the Maui Pacific Center is to assist local, national, and regional leaders of the Pacific develop new ways to resolve social and economic challenges." The MPC has also hosted 23 major conferences, workshops, and related events on topics addressing issues of concern to Hawaii and the Pacific region. MPC has extensive experience in conference design, implementation and management.
