DeVilder (309) 782-6329 This activity is seeking information from
companies that may be able to provide a commercial or existing Small
Lightweight Blasting Machine. This Small Lightweight Blasting Machine
is a replacement or substitute for the M34 Blasting Machine. The
following is the list of requirements for the Blasting Machine: (a).
The blasting machine's purpose is to provide a means to electrically
initiate shock tube (MDI -- Modernized Demolitions Initiator), time
fuse, Launcher Mine Clearing Line Charge (MICLIC), and military
electric M6 blasting caps, (b). The blasting machine must be able to
produce an adequate current to concurrently initiate a minimum of 50
military blasting caps (M6 electric or equivalent). The M6 electric
blasting cap requires 1.5 amperes to fire with a resistance of 2 ohms,
(c). The blasting machine must be able to produce an adequate current
to initiate the MICLIC. The MICLIC requires 350 volts and 6.8 amps (or
equivalent) to fire, (d). Fire a minimum of 300 military blasting caps
within one hour, (e). Operate between -25o (F) to 120o (F), from 0% to
100% humidity, (f). Be able to operate properly after being submerged
in salt water to a depth of 10 feet for not less than 60 minutes, (g).
Be equipped with a testing device that will indicate operational
readiness. An integral or separate testing device is acceptable, (h).
Have a positive safety feature that will prevent unwanted, accidental,
or premature utilization or firing signal, (i). The blasting machine
must continue to be fully operational after being dropped from a height
of 6 feet onto a concrete surface, (j). The blasting machine's physical
size cannot exceed 6 in x 4 in x 2 in overall dimensions and 16 ounces
in weight and incorporate a lanyard attachment point. If provided with
a carrying case, the case will be olive drab colored, cordura nylon,
full closure with quick attach/release capability to current soldier
Load Carrying Equipment (LCE), (k). The operation of the blasting
machine cannot be affected by Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI)
within 100' of the blasting machine, (l). The blasting machine should
be soldier friendly and safe to operate. Interested sources are
encouraged to submit the following written information at NO COST or
obligation to the Government: Name, address, point of contact and
telephone number, description of components, and any
brochures/literature. Responses should provide information regarding
the experience of your company with the item, dimensional
characteristics, and any test data. Any information received as a
result of this announcement will not be provided to other contractors
and may be utilized for the purposes of obtaining samples for test and
