Dydak, 703-607-6909 The Defense Information Systems Agency intends to acquire a Video Cataloging System (VCS) in support of the Visual Recording Facility (VRF) second phase. This system will consist of hardware and software sufficient to catalog and encode two video sources simultaneously. The video source will catalog and the metadata index (Information that describes the video and audio information contained in the source) will be written to files and Web pages on the VRF Storage Area Network (SAN). It is also desired that the system be capable of storing the index in a database for possible future requirements. The system will index the input source and extract the following information: Closed-caption text; Timecode (station time, SMPTE, for example); Keyframes (pans, zooms, significant scene changes); Type of audio (speech, music, silence, etc.); Identify of the speaker; and Keywords from audio track. After the video sources have been cataloged and encoded, users of the system will search for desired video assets using a Web browser interface.
