POC Marsha Gorham, Purchasing Agent & Gail Zois, Contracting Officer
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Molecular Tumor Biology Section of
the Basic Research Laboratory Division of Basic Sciences intends to
procure on a sole source basis for a Fluorescence Microscope System
with Carl Zeiss, Inc, One Zeiss Drive, Thornwood, NY 10594. This system
will replace an older Carl Zeiss system and approximately $20,000 of
components from the aged Zeiss system will be needed to complete this
system. In conjunction with components previously purchased from Zeiss,
the proposed system will incorporated motorized XY and Z axis drives,
transmitted and reflected light shutters along with a dual filter wheel
for reflected light for automated excitation wavelength selection. The
new system will be equipped with an environmental chamber and an
existing digital camera/video capture system for experiments using
time-lapse microscopy. An existing microinjector, which was custom
configured to fit on a Carl Zeiss microscope, will be also attached to
the microscope for microinjection experiments. New software OPENLAB
(Mac based) will be used to control the entire system to achieve
confocal microscopy-like performance. This includes a visual
programming which makes it easy to set up and run a variety of
experiments, making the system user friendly. The system also contains
a cell tracking system, which allows the user to mark the positions of
cells for later location. Therefore, it allows the user to identify
unlimited random or regularly spaced locations for automatic scanning.
These unique capabilities as well as interchangeability and
compatibility are essential for proper operation and cost effective
set-up on the proposed system. This notice of intent is not a request
for competitive proposal. However, if any interested party believes it
can meet the above requirement, they may submit a statement of
capabilities. Information furnished must be in writing and must contain
sufficient detail, to allow NCI to determine if the party can meet the
requirement. Capability statement must be received in the Contracting
Office by 2:00 PM EST on April 3, 2000. If you have any questions,
please contact Marsha Gorham, Purchasing Agent (301)402-4509. A
determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract
based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of
the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the
purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
