Research and Construction Contracts, tdanver@mail.ncrifcrf.gov. The
National Institute of General Medical Science (NIGMS) and the National
Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are
partnering to establish a user facility for crystallograhic structure
determination of biological macromolecules by X-ray diffraction at the
Advanced Photon Source (APS) at the Argonne National Laboratory. This
facility will occupy one full sector on the floor at the APS and
consist of two or alternatively three experimental end stations for
state-of-the-art X-ray macromolecular crystallography based on
independently operating bending magnet and insertion device beam lines.
The design of this facility will emphasize high-throughput employing
the multiwavelength anomalous dispersion (MAD) method of diffraction
data collection in all station positions. The elements of the design
should deliver stable high resolution monochromatic X-rays rapidly
tunable from 3.5 to 35 keV in a spot size on the order of 100 microns
to a fixed position in the experimental station. Collimation of the
X-ray beam should be maintained and the beam attributes of the
radiation sources should not be compromised. We anticipate the
publication of a solicitation for the design and/or construction of
this facility within six (6) weeks of the appearance of this synopsis
notice. Interested parties should fax a brief statement of capabilities
to Thomas L. Danver, (301) 846-5414. It is anticipated that this will
be the only announcement of the availability of the proposed
solicitation. A draft statement of work for this project can be
accessed at the following web-site:
http://www.nigms.nih.gov/news/announcements/beamline_sow.html .
Comments on any aspect of the draft SOW are welcome and should be
directed to the contracting officer. If comments and expressed
interests are sufficient, then a presolicitation conference may be
scheduled and those parties expressing interest will be afforded an
opportunity to attend. Posted 03/17/00 (W-SN435527). (0077) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0013 20000321\A-0013.SOL)
