The U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration intends to award a multi-year contract to McTrans, the Transportation Research Center (TRC) at the University of Florida, that involves the development and full understanding of the model logic for all major features in the FHWA's traffic modelling software packages. FHWA software includes the Traffic Software Integrated System (TSIS) which is a collection of software tools for use by traffic engineers and researchers, IDAS -- ITS Deployement Analysis System, and TWOPAS -- Two Lane (Passing)Highway Simulation Program. The objectives of the study are (1) to conduct comprehensive testing, verification and validation (TV&V) of FHWA's traffic software; (2) to evaluate and assess the quatlity of all supporting documents of FHWA's software (3) to assist FHWA in documenting program problems identified during the testing, verification, and validation process (4) to review technical reports on the state-of-the-art traffic software development and (5) to make recommendations for future enhancements to the FHWA traffic software.
