The US Department of Veterans Affairs, Great Lakes Acquisition Center, is planning to negotiate a sole source contract with McKesson Automated Healthcare for unit dose packaging of bulk drugs and overwrapping of unit dose packaged drugs at the Hines IL VA Hospital. This is to be done in conjunction with the McKesson RxOBOT that is currently being leased by VA Hines to do the unit dose dispensing of drugs for individual inpatients. It includes furnishing and use of the McKesson Bulk Speed Pakager as well as labor but does not include purchase or lease of any equipment. It also includes monitoring and management of off-line inventory levels. The contract period will be for one year with options to renew for a total of about 3.5 years. This is considered to be a sole source because the McKesson Bulk Speed Packager is the only system that can do unit dose packaging of buk drugs that is compatible with the McKesson RxOBOT already being leased by the Hines IL VA Hospital. Other sources who believe they can supply equipment and services that would meet the needs of the VA must furnish product and service information to this office by 4:30 PM on March 28, 2000.
