DESCRIPTION In accordance with Commercial Item Description A-A-1305B,
dated 04/17/89. Machinists' Ball Peen Hammer Head Weight: 32 ounces,
plus or minus 4 ounces. Handle Material: Fiberglass. Overall length:
16.0 inches. EXCEPTION(S) TO TECHNICAL DOCUMENT Delete "Finish"
paragraph and substitute the following: "Finish. The striking face
shall have a roughness value less than 125 microinches when calculated
as an arithmetic average. Other areas shall have a surface finish
conforming to good commercial practice. Hammers shall be tested for
surface finish roughness in accordance with ANSI/ASME B46.1 prior to
lacquering or coating." Delete "Handle" paragraph and substitute the
following: "Handle. The handle shall be made of hickory wood or
fiberglass with a handgrip as specified. When hickory is required, the
handle shall be Grade A hickory wood in accordance with Federal
Specification NN-H-93C; except in Table I of NN-H-93C, column titled
'Maximum admissible blemishes and defects', delete all text except for
'Four medium streaks or equivalent in shorter streaks. Light stain.'
Table, Head Weight tolerance, add a negative tolerance equal to the
plus tolerance shown in the chart. Table, Overall Length tolerance,
delete "plus 1 inch" and substitute "plus or minus 1 inch". Table,
delete eye dimension tolerances and substitute "Plus 1/8 inch minus
1/16 inch". Page 4, under "Notes", add the following: "An acceptable
alternative to the Rockwell C hardness is the equivalent Brinell
hardness as specified in ASTM E140-86 when tested with a 3000kg, 10mm,
standard or tungsten carbide ball." WORKMANSHIP Details of workmanship
shall be in accordance with the best commercial standards and
practices. Paints, coatings, platings, and finishes shall be smooth,
dry, adherent, continuous, and not stained or discolored. Fasteners
shall be firmly secured and show no evidence of deformation, cross
threading, or hazardous burrs. Adhesives and lubricants adequate for
their intended purpose shall be properly and neatly applied. Adhesives
shall be adequately cured. Wires and cables shall be neatly dressed
and shall not be frayed or in contact with sharp edges. Wire and cable
insulation shall show no evidence of burns, abrading, or pinch marks.
There shall be no interference, binding, or galling of parts. External
and bearing surfaces shall be free of tool and gouge marks, nicks, or
other surface imperfections. The item shall be clean and free of
corrosion and debris (e.g., chips, shavings, slivers) or other foreign
material. The item shall be free from manufacturing workmanship
defects (e.g., loose, missing, binding or misaligned parts, sharp or
rough external edges, corners or surfaces) and material workmanship
defects (e.g., pits, rips, fins, burrs, tears, nodules, cracks,
blisters) which may adversely impact the item's serviceability,
durability, safety, or appearance. ITEM MARKING Each item (including
all items within a set or kit) shall be marked with the manufacturer's
name and identifying symbol, and the state or country of manufacture,
unless otherwise specified. All marking shall be engraved, etched,
molded, or indented. PACKAGING Six (6) items shall be preserved and
packaged in a unit package designed to protect the item against damage
during shipment, handling, and storage. PROHIBITION OF PLASTIC
PACKAGING AND PACKING Plastic in packaging, packing and associated
marking materials are prohibited. The definition of plastic shall be as
defined in ASTM D883-93. PACKING The unit packages shall be packed in
a close fitting fiberboard box, grade 200 minimum. The complete pack
shall be in compliance with the Uniform Freight Classification and the
National Motor Freight Classification. MARKING All unit, intermediate,
exterior shipping containers, and palletized or unitized loads shall be
marked for delivery to civilian activities in accordance with latest
version of FED-STD-123 or for delivery to military activities in
accordance with latest version of MIL-STD-129, as applicable. Posted
