TACOM plans to use a single year, sole source firm fixed price contract
to procure 16 each Bradley Advanced Training System (BATS) simulators
and one relocatable shelter to house a BATS unit. BATS is a crew
training devise for the Bradley Fighting Vehicles A3 Upgrade program.
The focus of the BATS system is a gunnery training platform to support
Bradley A3 vehicle fielding.Accordingly, it is important that the
functionality available in the Bradley A3 vehicle platform being
fielded be included in the BATS trainers. Another key capability for
BATS is to provide gunnery skills training according to modern training
practices currently being used or being developed by Bradley
instuctional programs. The BATS must be fielded in time to allow
soldiers to begin hands-on familiarization for the Bradley A3 vehicle
using the same software as the vehicle, and high fidelity replicas of
critical Soldier Machine Interface (SMI) components at the Commander's,
Gunner's, and Driver's stations. As a secondary objective, the BATS
crew trainer will pursue a variety of simulation applications, such as
test rehearsal, maneuver, and procedural training. The BATS will
replace the Conduct of Fire Trainer (COFT) and and the Close Combat
Tactical Trainer (CCTT), which are earlier Bradley simulators. The BATS
utilizes actual Bradley A3 vehicle software. The BATS was developed by
United Defense L.P., the Bradley vehicle developer and ontractor.
