conducted under the authority of the Small Business Research and
Enhancement Act of 1982. It is designed to provide small businesses
with opportunities to compete for federal research and development
awards and to stimulate commercialization of the resulting technology.
The NASA SBIR 2000-I technical topics and subtopics support the NASA
strategic enterprises of Aero-Space Technology; Human Exploration and
Development of Space; Earth Science; and Space Science. In addition, a
topic is included for crosscutting technologies that support multiple
strategic enterprises. It is anticipated that the 2000 SBIR
solicitation will identify specific product areas within each of the
above-listed topic areas that NASA wishes to emphasize. Anticipated
topics include the following: In support of Aero-Space Technology:
Aviation Safety: Environmental Compatibility; Space Access &
Transportation; Small Aircraft Transportation System; Aerospace Vehicle
Design Tools; Aviation System Through-Put; and Advanced Concepts &
Experimental Flight Research. In support of Human Exploration and
Development of Space: Explore the Space Frontier; Expand Scientific
Knowledge; Enable Humans to Live & Work Permanently in Space; Enable
the Commercial Development of Space; and Share the Experience and
Benefits of Discovery. In support of Earth Science: Instruments for
Earth Science Measurements; Platform Technologies for Science
Measurements; and Advanced Information Systems Technology. In support
of Space Science: Sun-Earth Connection; Structure and Evolution of the
Universe; Astronomical Search for Origins; and Exploration of the
Solar System. In Support of Cross-cutting Technologies: Advanced Power
and On-Board Propulsion (APP); Breakthrough Sensors and Instrument
Component Technology; Distributed Spacecraft; High Rate Data Delivery;
Thinking Space Systems; Micro/Nano Spacecraft; Next Generation
Infrastructure; Surface Systems; Ultralight Structures and
Observatories; and Atmospheric and In-Space Systems.To participate in
the NASA SBIR program, firms must have Internet access via the World
Wide Web and an e-mail address. Details can be found on the NASA SBIR
Home Page at http://sbir.nasa.gov . NASA will issue its SBIR 2000-I
solicitation starting at noon Eastern time on April 24, 2000.
Distribution will be through the NASA SBIR Home Page at
http://sbir.nasa.gov . Paper copies of the solicitation will not be
distributed. Questions regarding electronic access and other

instructions for proposal development and submission are contained in
the solicitation. Proposals are due July 14, 2000 and will be required
in both paper and electronic formats as described in the solicitation
