The Bombs and Pyrotechnics Team, Production Directorate is conducting a market survey to identify potential vendors capable of manufacturing conventional bomb bodies in 500, 1000, and 2000 pound size designations. Specific to facilities, equipment, and skills required to manufacture subject items are as follows: Sufficient production facilities to receive welded steel tubing (up to 18 inches in diameter), cut to length (up to 8 feet), form nose and aft ends, rough machine, cut holes and weld inserts, heat treat, finish machine, test, paint, assemble and ship. Specific equipment required includes: band saws/cutoff machines, 1000 ton cold form presses, large induction heaters, water cooling chambers, double end lathes, TIR gages/fixtures, wall CNC lathes, sub-arc welders, continuous flow heat treat/draw systems, shot blast systems, multiple spindle drills/tappers, CNC vertical mills/machining centers, push/pull/hydro test equipment, phosphate/paint systems, and various specialized material handling equipment. A respondent to this market survey must have available the skills required to perform all production/testing operations on the specific equipment including forming, welding, heat treating, machining, testing, and assembling subject bomb bodies. These skills must be available with sufficient experience and proficiency to produce these items in a timely and efficient manner. A respondent must also have available the appropriate maintenance, tooling, and manufacturing engineering skills required to support quality production of these items. A respondent must currently possess a majority of these processes in-house and demonstrate provisions for obtaining the remainder without significant delay. A respondent's maximum capacity must be sufficient to produce a combined total of 5000 units per month. The most recent monthly procurement quantities for the three size designations (not necessarily produced concurrently) are as follows: 500 lb bodies (MK 82) 2,500/mo. 1000 lb bodies (MK 83) 1,300/mo. 2000 lb bodies (MK 84) 1,000/mo. A detailed questionnaire including top-level drawings can be provided upon request to the POC. Interested firms who feel they are capable of manufacturing these items are invited to indicate their interest by providing to the Government a brief summary of the capabilities, including a description of facilities, personnel, and past manufacturing experience as it relates to the above criteria. Alternate manufacturing processes and methods may be considered.
