Mapping Solution for Army Aviation. Technical POC: Mr. Preston Bosley,
AMSAM-RD-BA-AV, Software Engineering Directorate, Aviation and Missile
RDEC, Redstone Arsenal, AL, (256) 842-6188, email:
preston.bosley@sed.redstone.army.mil/. Contract POC: Ms. Patsy
Garrison, AMSAM-AC-RD-BC, Acquisition Center, (256) 842-7406, email:
garrison-pc@redstone.army.mil/, Ms Marcia Tully, (256) 876-1351. The
U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) is soliciting sources
for an approach to a common digital mapping solution for Army Aviation.
This "Request for Information" is to assess the industry interest in
such a concept and to determine the degree of adequacy of the solution
in addressing the concerns of the following paragraph: Army Aviation
desires information concerning embedded digital map systems for its
platforms. Consideration should be given to a solution that is
applicable across all army aviation platforms to the maximum extent
possible. Consideration should also begiven to implementation of the
mapping functions at the LRU, card, and embedded software levels. The
map system must address loading map data from NIMA products. The map
system should be capable of supporting current military symbology and
have the ability to expand and adjust its symbol set to accommodate
evolving symbology requirements. The system software should accommodate
open system and layered architectures to maximize reuse and
commonality. It is desirable to access map functions through the Weapon
Systems Mapping Services (WSMS) Application Programmer's Interface
(API), which is an emerging mapping API standard. Operating modes
should be described. All features pertaining to the display of maps
should be described. Features such as stored images are desirable. Map
display controls such as centering, zoom and orientation should be
described. The system hardware should take maximum advantage of
commercially available sources. Standard interfaces to existing
hardware should be considered such as displays, 1553 bus structure, and
RS-170 video. Describe physical and environmental features. The system
construction including materials processes and parts should be
discussed. Describe the environmental standards and levels of
qualification achieved by the system. System growth capacity should be
described. SUBMISSION PROCESS: Offerors interested in documenting
their approach to a common mapping solution should respond by
indicating their ability to meet the above screening criteria.
Potential sources/offerors are invited to submit responses to this
"Request for Information" to the Contracting Officer no later than 12
Apr 2000 for consideration as a source at: Commander, US Army Aviation
and Missile Command, ATTN: AMSAM-AC-RD-BC (Tully/Garrison), Building
5400, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898-5000. Firms responding should indicate
whether they are a large business, small disadvantaged business, 8(a)
business, or woman-owned small business, and whether they are a U.S. or
foreign-owned firm. Disclosure of classified and export-controlled
unclassified including sensitive unclassified information shall be
denied to Foreign Governments and Foreign Nationals, including firms
under foreign ownership, influence, or control, even if the firm has
been granted a reciprocal industrial security facility clearance. This
Foreign Disclosure denial applies to both the solicitation and to
contract performance, and it also applies to prime contractors as well
as to all subcontractors. Each offeror responding to this synopsis is
requested to submit with its reply a name, telephone, and e-mail for
a point of contact. Firms which meet the screening criteria in this
notice will be considered as potential sources for requirements for
this type of technology effort. The Government objective in this
program is to determine the best overall approach or approaches to
proceed with the development of this concept in future acquisitions.
Organizations responding to this sources sought synopsis will not be
identified as to whether or not they meet the screening criteria.
Responses will be disposed of in a manner that protects proprietary
data. All proprietary material should be clearly marked and will be
held in the strictest confidence. This synopsis is for information and
planning purposes, does not constitute an RFP, and is not to be
construed as a commitment by the Government. Closing date for
submission of responses is 12 Apr 2000. Posted 03/29/00 (W-SN439189).
