FAX (703) 607-4340 The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is
seeking sources capable of providing a Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS)
directory product to be used for a Directory Service to meet the
enterprise-level needs of the entire Department of Defense (DoD). This
Request For Information (RFI) is an update to a previous RFI published
in the Commerce Business Daily (CBD) on 27 July 1999, Submission No.
359221. The intent of this update is to solicit information related to
enhancements made to released COTS directory products since that time.
DISA is interested in obtaining written system specifications and
supporting information pertaining to commercial directory products with
meta-directory functionality. Areas of interest include product
maturity, scalability, meta- directory functionality with support for
heterogeneous directories, directory protocols, distributed operations,
security, PKI support, directory administration and management,
platforms supported, application developer support, and user access.
Please address how the product provides the capabilities or addresses
on issues A through L. (A) Product maturity: number of fielded
installations of current directory products, status of major meta
product releases; (B) Scalable to 25 million objects; ultimately
capable of scaling to 250 million objects; (C) Meta directory
connectors-join /merge/data normalization capability for: X.500,
Netscape, Exchange, Active Directory, Lotus Domino/Notes, Novell
Directory Services (NDS), Others if available now, Capability to script
special-purpose connectors, if needed; (D) Lightweight Directory Access
Protocol Version 3 (LDAPv3) and related protocols: RFC 2251 -- RFC
2256, LDAP Data Interchange Format (LDIF), LDAP Directory Upgrade
Protocol (LDUP), Support for IETF Policy Framework (RFCs 2784-2753),
Supported LDAP extended operations and controls; (E) Distributed
Operations: Synchronization Methods, Referral and Chaining Methods,
Server-to-Server support (X.500 Protocols or equivalent); (F) Security:
Authentication Methods (Simple, Digest, Certificate based Binds),
Configure Access Control Lists (ACL), Support for Individual Profiles
to control access, Common criteria Protection Profiles, Support of
secure transport (SSL/TLS port 636); (G) Support for DOD Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI): Storage of Multi-valued User Certificate
attributes, Storage of Multi-valued PKI management attributes (CRL,
ARL, etc); (H) Administration: Performance monitoring, Auditing
capability, Ability to perform maintenance without disrupting normal
directory functions, Disaster recovery capability, Error
logging/notification capability; (I) Platforms supported by the
product; (J) Tool kit for application developers to provide directory
enabled applications; (K) User Access: Web browser client support,
Advanced/Basic Query Capability, Customize HTML/XML Support; (L)
Schema: Support of standard object classes and attributes (RFC 2252 &
2256), Ability to extend schema based on LDAP format (syntax, matching
rules, contact rules, etc.) There is no bid package or solicitation
document associated with this announcement. The requested information
is for planning purposes and does not constitute a commitment, implied
