We work with Microstation design files and have been experiencing problems with some of our files since migrating over to the NT workstations. We have been encountering end-of-file errors on a more frequent basis. The EdG editor that we have had for a number of years is only able to fix approx. 30% of the files. Our only solution, to fix the other 70%, is to retrieve the file off the backup which results in the lost of the current days work. We are looking for a program that can find and correct design file corruption that cannot be found with EdG, and that will do it automatically. This software must be able to scan all the design files on our system and correct those with corruption before they cause problems. It must fix errors as: end of file missing, words to follow problems, phantom elements, etc. It must also have the capability of allowing the user the option to view the problem elements, to provide for interactive decision making, before fixing them. We are also looking for the following utilities as part of the software bundle: 1. The ability to compare two design files and create a third file showing the difference between them. 2. The ability to recover previously deleted elements on a selective basis protecting us from major deletion errors. 3. The ability to quickly recover wasted disk space from every design file on the system without excessively fragmenting files or changing their modification date or archive bits. 4. The ability for automatic user-defined backups of design files from every minute to every four hours, saving them in a sequential order from 1 to 999 and then automatically cycling the backups once that number is reached.
