COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 3,2000 PSA#2570LIGHT WEIGHT GROUND MOUNT The U.S. Army has a requirement to develop an
improved lightweight tripod, traverse and elevation mechanism system
capable of mounting both the M240B MMG and the M249 Light Machinegun.
The Lightweight ground mount will reduce the weight and size burden of
the M122 tripod but yet enable the Soldier to deliver a high degree of
accurate fire from a stable base. The traversing and elevating
mechanism permits controlled manipulation in both azimuth and elevation
and makes it possible to engage predetermined targets during darkness
or periods of reduced visibility. The Lightweight Ground Mount (LWGM)
will contain the following performance features: (1) Range Card
Capability w/mil fin adjustment and bold shift of fire (2) Stable
design on all surfaces without ballast (3) Simplified/Integrated T&E:
Reliable, smooth and allow rapid target adjustment (4)
Foldable/Collapsible mechanism (5) RAM equal to or better than M122 (6)
Lightweight: Threshold: 11 lbs. Objective: 9 lbs. (7) Quick Weapon
Installa- tion, no brackets or adapters, (8) Durable (9) Ambidextrous
(10) Night Vision compatible. The basic contract is to design,,
manufacture, and test two (2)pro- totype LWGMs followed by the
manufacture and delivery of 20 refined/improved lightweight ground
mounts for performance evaluation to support Type Classifica- tion (TC)
Action with a one-year production option quantity between 3,000 --
