E-MAIL: Deborah G. Bankit, dbankit@pica.army.mil. The U.S Army
Tank-Automotive and Armament Command, Armament Research, Development
and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ is
contemplating the issuance of a solicitation for a Light Hybrid Assault
Cannon Lethality Study. The primary purpose of the effort is to
establish hybrid cannon lethality based concept solutions/analysis to
support the U.S. Army's vision of lethal, more deployable combat
vehicles variant fieldable in 2012. The U.S. Army has established a
direction for a Future Combat System (FCS) to meet the need for highly
lethal, more mobile forces, with the capability to quickly deploy
anywhere national interests are threatened. Future light forces must
possess sufficient combat power to have a decisive impact upon arrival,
high survivability/sustainability, and an essential component of the
full spectrum dominance necessary for a credible deterrent strategy in
the twenty-first century. TACOM-ARDEC is in the process of concepting
robust hybrid lethality (armament) solutions for a Future Combat
System for the 2012 timeframe, providing lethality capability in
extended range line-of-sight (LOS), and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) fire
out to 30km and capable of being integrated onto a C-130 deployable
light vehicle. These hybrid lethality approaches have the potential to
dramatically reduce logistics burdens while providing multi-role,
multi-mission lethality capabilities with advanced munitions. This
provides the flexibility to equip the vehicle with the appropriate mix
of munitions to best respond to the operational scenario without the
need for multiple vehicles possessing more limited firepower utility.
TACOM-ARDEC seeks industry support to continue concepting, performing
trade-studies and analyzing future combat vehicle armaments and
automated ammunition resupply methods which incorporate advanced
armament technologies into contractor and TACOM-ARDEC's lethality
concepts to form an objective hybrid lethality system for 2012
fielding. Interested sources must demonstrate experience inlethality
concept development and clearly depict an evolutionary approach from
near-term lethality system solutions to 2012 fieldable solutions
through advancements in technology. TACOM-ARDEC intends to issue two
(2) sole-source contracts to GDLS and UDLP who will, in parallel,
continue with Phase II of this concept study. It is a nine (9) month
effort. Phase I of the study was completed in February 2000. The
Government will not pay for any information sub- mitted in response to
this notice. This is not a solicitation and the Government is not
obligated to issue a contract based on this notice. Information should
be submitted which demonstrates ability to meet the requirements
stated above. See Numbered Note 25. Posted 04/04/00 (D-SN441144).
