The period of performance is for three and one half years with the possibility of a one year extension. The contractor shall perform laboratory analyses for one or more of the following. A gram stain of smears of vaginal fluid for identification of bacterial vaginosis (BV); and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis for Trichomonas vaginalis. The contractor must have at least 36 months of continous experience in conducting routine analysis of gram-stained smears for the detection of BV and 36 months in conducting trichomonas PCR. Test results shall be supplied in machine readable form no later than three weeks after the specimens or slides are received. It is anticipated 200 specimens or slides will be sent in 2000 for each assay and 938 specimens or slides will be sent per year for the next 3 years. Offerors shall have a well established quality assurance program. The Contractor's laboratory must be certified in accordance with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA). The estimated release date for this RFP is approximately 15 days after this publication and closing will be approximately 30 days after issue date.
