COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 12,2000 PSA#2577Department of the Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command, 2531 Jefferson Davis
Highway, Arlington, VA 22242-5160 20 -- REQUEST FOR INFORMATION -- AUTOMATED STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL
SYSTEMS (ASRS) DUE 042400 POC Point of contact:David J. Dawson, SEA
02423D, 703.602.0200, ext. 414 SOURCES SOUGHT FOR AUTOMATED STORAGE AND
RETRIEVAL SYSTEM (ASRS) -- The Navy is conducting a market survey to
identify sources for a palletized Automated Storage and Retrieval
System (ASRS) meeting our requirements and upon which the Navy may
conduct performance and operational testing and evaluation. The goal of
the testing and evaluation will be to qualify the candidate ASRS for
Navy use and procurement. ASRS is to provide an automated means to
receive, stow, and pull pallet-loads of commodities including
subsistence, repair parts, and consumables used in an afloat
environment aboard large-decked ships, specifically aircraft carriers.
ASRS is to be installed aboard ships outfitted with pallet elevator
systems. ASRS will be installed in large below-deck storerooms where
provisions, repair parts, and consumables are stowed for varying
periods of time. ASRS must be able to safely receive, transport, and
stow full single and/or double high standard Navy pallets of material
in semi-permanent stowage with minimal human intervention. Single
pallet weights may reach or exceed 2000 pounds. Upon receipt of a
shipboard requirement, ASRS must be able to efficiently bring the
pallet of material to a specified storeroom location for picking of
material and then return the remaining material to a semi-permanent
location for continued safe stowage. The location of the pallet need
not be the same location after pulling material as before. ASRS must be
able to perform efficiently in an afloat environment up to and
including sea-state five in open ocean in addition to pier-side or at
anchor. Hardware and software operating systems must feature high
reliability of operation, ease of operation and maintenance, and low
weight characteristics. Software systems must not only operate ASRS but
also must maintain accurate commodity inventory and location
information. Software data must be easily exportable to afloat
information management systems. The intent of this announcement is to
identify sources for the procurement of test articles. If testing
satisfies the Navy's needs, follow-on procurements may be authorized.
U. S. and foreign firms interested in being considered should submit,
in writing, a description of their product that fulfills the Navy
requirement, along with price and availability information. This
announcement is a request for information only and is not a request for
proposal (RFP) or announcement of solicitation. Activities that fail to
respond will not be placed on a bidders list for a solicitation of test
articles and the product will not be evaluated for approval for Navy
use and procurement. No telephone inquiries will be accepted. The
Government will not pay for any material provided in response to this
synopsis nor return the data provided. Responses are required no later
than 24 April 2000. Responses should be addressed to: Commander, Naval
Sea Systems Command, SEA 02423D, 2531 Jefferson Davis Highway,
Arlington, VA 22242-5160. See Numbered Note(s): 22. ***** Posted
