work will widen the existing Ybor Turning Basin by approximately 200
feet and incorporate a channel transition wedge into the Sparkman
Channel. The new widener will be dredged to a project depth of 34 feet
plus two additional feet of required dredging plus one foot of
allowable overdepth. Total amount of material to be dredged is
approximately 468,000 cubic yards. Dredged material will be placed in
2 separate areas: a) approximately 318,000 cy within an upland disposal
facility to be constructed under this contract at Hooker's Point
located approximately 2.5 miles from the dredging area; and b)
approximately 150,000 cy will be placed in open water within the
deauthorized Garrison Channel. The following restrictions regarding
order of work will be specified for this contract: a) The first order
of work under this contract will be the construction of the upland
disposal facility at Hooker's Point utilizing materials available on
site; b) Prior to any dredging, the relocation of oyster beds impacted
by the widener must be accomplished; c) The first order of dredging
work will be the construction of the underwater containment berms in
the Garrison Channel; d) The second order of dredging work will be the
placement of material in the Garrison Channel until it is filled to
the lines and grades shown on the contract plans; and e) the final
order of dredging work shall be the dredging of all remaining material
to the required depth with disposal in the newly constructed upland
disposal area. Note: Oyster bed relocation and subsequent dredging and
disposal of material in the Garrison Channel may begin prior to
completion of the upland disposal area construction; however, the
upland disposal area must be complete and ready for use once the
Garrison Channel has been filled. Construction time is 120 calendar
days. Magnitude of construction is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000.
Invitation will be issued on or about 24 April 2000 and open on or
about 1 June 2000. Solicitation will be issued in electronic format
only. Bidders will be provided a CD-ROM at no cost. THIS IS AN
