The instrument must have the capability to analyze ferrous based metals. The instrument conforms to standard body methods (ASTM) for the analysis of alloying elements in carbon and low-alloy steel. The instrument must have the ability to analyze small samples such as wires and thin sheets. The instrument shall have small sample adapters for use with their optical emission spectrometer to examine these small sizes. This feature is mandatory for this procurement. The instrument also has the capability to upgrade to add the ability to analyze aluminum and copper alloys (this is also a mandatory feature for this procurement). These types of samples routinely analyzed for classification in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals.
