COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 14,2000 PSA#2579Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, 9500 MacArthur Blvd.,
West Bethesda, MD 20817-5700 A -- SOURCES SOUGHT OF A PROPULSION SHAFT SURFACE PROTECTION SYSTEM
SOL N0016700SS0043 POC Elaine D. Weschler (301) 227-1696, Lynn Rowe
(301) 227-1100 The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division
seeks sources to provide for research and technology available in the
area of propulsion shaft surface protection systems. The current glass
reinforced epoxy system provides good corrosion protection up to 7
years. After this period, the composite protection coating has to be
repaired or replaced due to corrosion of the shaft underneath the
coating. It is necessary to prolong the time between shaft maintenance
in an effort to extend drydocking cycles. This protection system can
be either metallic or non-metallic. The maximum bending stress exerted
on the shaft is 6000 psi. The desired system shall extend the time
between rehabilitation of the shaft to 15 years by providing corrosion
protection and by resisting foreign object impact damage imposed on
the shaft underwater. Information is requested, but not limited to:
system descriptions, current commercial or military applications,
customer references, if applicable. This sources sought announcement
does not constitute an RFP and does not obligate the Government in any
way purchase or test any of the potential systems. Further, it does
not commit the Government to pay for any proposal costs in response to
this sources sought announcement. Submit your response to Naval
Surface Warfare Center, Attn: Michelle Jensen, Code 6553, Marine
Composites Branch, 9500 MacArthur Blvd, West Bethesda, MD 20817-5700.
Responses to this sources sought shall be submitted no later than 45
calendar days after the date of this CBD announcement. For additional
information, call Ms. Michelle Jensen on (301) 227-4969. Posted
