Falgiano, Contract Specialist, Services Section 3, Mailstop K70, (770) 488-2629 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention contemplates awarding a firm-fixed priced contact to obtain acute respiratory surveillance data using viral culture procedures. The purpose of this project is to monitor the circulating strains of influenza virus, via a sentinel physician network, and to monitor the occurrence and identify the etiological agents responsible for respiratory illnesses in other CDC specified facilities. The agency is seeking a laboratory capable of performing testing procedures and providing CDC with timely, confirmed viral diagnosis of patients that participate in this project. The laboratory must be capable of providing instructions to sentinel physicians and other CDC specified facilities, provide a mechanism for transporting specimens from point of origin to the laboratory servicing facility, perform laboratory isolation and identification of influenza type A and B; sub-typing of influenza A viruses; provide laboratory results to participants and CDC and submit to CDC influenza viruses isolated from submitted specimens collected during the influenza season. The period of performance will be a 12 month basic contract period with four (4), 12 month options which may be exercised at the Government's discretion based upon the availability of funds for that fiscal year.
