Baytop, Contracting Officer, (202) 707-0446 The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS/BPH) of the Library of Congress is seeking offers from firms interested in operating and managing service centers in contractor-owned facilities. These centers function as materials support for two specified geographic areas of the country. Working under the NLS/BPH on a contractual basis and relating directly to the libraries in their service areas, the centers provide publications, equipment supplies and interlibrary loan service for all NLS/BPH mass-produced books and magazines on request to public libraries in their region. Region 1 (East) serves all the territory East of the Mississippi River. Region 2 (West) serves all the territory West of the Mississippi River. Separate contracts will be awarded for each center. Centers must receive, store, shelve, duplicate and distribute all NLS-issued books and selected special collections, including assigned back issues of magazines and volunteer-produced material, store and ship equipment and store and ship other publications and supplies. Services must be provided in the contractors facilities, which requires an estimated 22,000 sq. ft. for Region 1 and 32,000 sq. ft. for Region 2. Contractor must provide all labor.
