HIGHWAY AND RAILROAD EMBANKMENT CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT -- SIC 1629. This
Project is a 100% Small Business set-aside. The location of work will
be the west bank approaches to two proposed bridges over the Tennessee
River just below Kentucky Dam in Marshall County, Kentucky. The
project is time critical with a performance period of 27 months. The
embankment construction will consist of approximately 1350 linear feet
of fill placement which will be joint highway/railroad embankment. The
remaining embankment will consist of about 3600 linear feet of highway
embankment and 800 linear feet of railroad embankment. The
Construction will consist of the following features and approximate
quantities: Stripping and Grubbing, 7 acres; Excavation, 130,000 C.Y.;
Embankment in place, 1,300,000 C.Y.; Lightweight fill material, 40,000
C.Y.; 24",30", and 36" Culverts, 1,000 L.F.; Riprap and Channel Lining,
4,000 Tons. The embankment heights range from 52 feet to a minimum of
about 15 feet in height. Only limited roadwork will be included with
this contract. No on-site fill material is available; therefore, it is
anticipated that all fill material will be transported to the site via
on-road trucks. Suitable borrow sites are located within approximately
four (4) miles from the project site. The lightweight fill material
will consist of expanded polystyrene blocks covered by a geomembrane.
The solicitation will be issued electronically at no cost from
Nashville District Corps of Engineers Contracting Home Page at
http://www.orn.usace.army.mil/contracting/ during mid May 2000. Limited
quantities of CD Rom will be available upon written request.
Contractors are encouraged to use the Nashville District Corps of
Engineers homepage. All interested Small Business Firms must be
registered in the Central Contractor Register and must be bondable for
amounts to cover amount of the contract when awarded. The range of
this project is expected to exceed ten million dollars
($10,000,000.00). All pertinent information will be posted on our web
