The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport's Water Tunnel Test Facility must be upgraded because of recent efforts in Super-Cavitating Advanced Torpedo (SCAT) projects. SCAT testing requires high water velocity testing which is currently limited to 28 feet per second in NUWCDIVNPT's research water Tunnel. There is a requirement to increase the maximum operating speed of NUWCDIVNPT's Research Water Tunnel to 60 feet per second at the test section. The contractor, Aerolab, Laurel, MD. (a small business) shall design and fabricate components to complete the integration of a new pump housing and motor to an existing facility. Aerolab designed, fabricated and installed the exising water tunnel and can provide complete compatibility between the proposed flow loop modifications and the existing water tunnel hardware. As such, Aeroblab is the only known company that has the existing technical expertise to provide this effort. The Government intends to award a sole source, firm fixed price purchase order to Aerolab using the procedures per FAR Part 12. A written solicitation will be issued 12 Apr 00. Anticipated award date is 18 Apr 00. Delivery will be F.O.B. destination, Newport, RI approximately 01 MAR 2001. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. All responsible sources may submit a quotation which shall be considered by the government. Telephone requests will not be honored. A determination by the Government not to compete with this proposed purchase order based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. See Note 1.
