A -- DEWATERING SYSTEM FOR SHIPBOARD DOMESTIC WASTEWATER MEMBRANE TREATMENT SYSTEM CONCENTRATE SOL N00167-00-BAA-0048 DUE 051800 POC Scott Mangum (301)227-5263 The U.S. Navy, (Ship Materials Technology Center, Environmental Quality Department) is requesting proposals pertaining to the acquisition of a shipboard dewatering system. The dewatering system must be designed to remove water from a domestic wastewater membrane concentrate, increasing the solids content from 1 to 2 percent to 25 percent or more by weight. The domestic wastewater concentrate is a mixture of shipboard hotel functions, i.e. laundry, shower and gallery and scullery wastes but not sewage, processed through an ultrafiltration membrane to concentrate insoluble particulates. The expected maximum volume of domestic wastewater concentrate generated daily is 1420 gallons. Successful systems must be capable of being scaled up to treat 1420 gallons per day of domestic wastewater concentrate at a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. The dewatering system will be judged on a weighted grading system as follows: a. Suitability for Shipboard use: ease of use (must be automatic); low noise desired; should be minimally affected by shock and vibration; should be inherently safe to use and require no chemical additives; small size: 30% b. Cost: 20% c. Maintainability: low maintenance requirements and costs; long mean time between repairs required; ease of repair; maintenance load greater than 1 hour per week -- disqualification: 20% d. Final solids content: less than 25% -- Disqualification, higher final solids content desired: 10% e. Speed: less than 85 gallons per day -- Disqualification, higher speed desired: 10% f. Experience: successful track record of building Naval or commercial shipboard devices: 10% Total: 100% Approximate period of performance -- October 2000 through June 2001 Potential funding availability -- Up to $100,000.00 per unit Number of awards -- Zero to two, depending on quality and quantity of proposals. All responsible sources may submit a technical and cost proposal to U.S. Navy, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, 9500 MacArthur Blvd., Bldg. 60, Room 124, West Bethesda, Maryland, 20817-5700, Code 633, Attn: Scott Mangum, (301)227-5263. Proposals received by 5/18/00 will be considered for award. Place of performance is NSWCCD. Posted 04/17/00 (W-SN445605). (0108)
