NASA/GRC plans to acquire a Turbo Pump (Varian Model No. V1000HT ISO 200), a Rough Pump (Varian Part No. 9699315), and various ancillary items (valves, rings, clamps, etc.). This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GRC intends to purchase the above items from VARIAN VACUUM TECHNOLOGIES. The decision to purchase only from Varian Vacuum Technologies is based in part on the benefit to the government due to interchangeability with existing Varian products currently in use at GRC. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION. THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT OF AN ANTICIPATED SOLE SOURCE ACQUISITION. NO FORMAL SOLICITATION WILL BE ISSUED. THEREFOR, PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST A COPY OF THE SOLICITATION. Prior to acquiring the items listed above, the Contracting Officer will review any and all responses to this announcement and determine whether a sole source acquisition is in the best interest of the government. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities/qualifications/product information in writing to the identified point of contact (below) not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on May 5, 2000. Such capabilities/qualifications/information will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. If the Contracting Officer determines that the acquisition should be conducted on a competitive basis, no award will be made pursuant to this synopsis. Instead, a separate synopsis/solicitation/specification list will be issued at some future date. A determination by the Government to compete, or not to compete, this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis is solely within the discretion of the government, and will be based on the responses to this announcement.
