Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy is seeking industrial partners to commercialize and license SafePatch, security distributed software. This new software provides automated analysis, distribution, and notification of security patches on network-based computer systems. SafePatch determines what patches need to be installed. For the patches that are installed, SafePatch checks the permissions and ownership of the files referenced in the patch and ensures that the system software is authentic. Currently, SafePatch detects patch deficiencies and distributes needed patches as well as the appropriate installation script to Sun systems that run Solaris 2.5.1 or newer. SafePatch is composed of a Patch Server and a Vendor Server. Licensees and collaborators are sought with technical and scientific expertise in the areas of network security. Successful industrial partners will have an established history and consistent record of research and development and experience and expertise in network security software.
