RiMiller@FDIC.gov. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is
seeking sources to indicate an interest in providing a
commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software product to perform virus
scanning on our network servers. The software should be compatible with
current Microsoft server based technology (i.e. Windows NT 4.0 SP 6, MS
Exchange 5.5 SP 3, MS SQL, etc. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR COMPETITIVE
PROPOSALS. The purpose of this notice is to develope a list of
qualified firms that can provide NT and Exchange Antivirus Packages.
Companies are invited to submit information regarding thier NT and
Exchange Antivirus Package(s) and the following requirements: 1.
REAL-TIME DETECTION AND CURE: Real-time detection will only apply to
local/console users. Real-time detection on the Microsoft Exchange
level shall be in place for all incoming messages. 2. ALERTING: If a
virus is detected the package should send an e-mail alert to a specific
address and to the sender (in the event of an e-mail based virus)
containing the user name, file name (including full path), virus found,
and action taken. An e-mail alert should be sent when the package is
disabled or modified containing server name, andreason for the message.
3. AN ACTIVITY LOG: A log containing a complete virus scanning history
including files checked, viruses found, and action taken shall be
kept. 4. SCANNING: The package should provide on access real time
scanning, scheduled scans, and on demand scans. The scanner should be
able to scan compressed files and should contain a heuristic engine,
which will detect unknown virus code. If a virus is found and it cannot
be cleaned the package shold move the file to a "quarantine" folder and
deny access to the user of that file. 5. UPDATES: The package shold be
able to download the latest virus signature updates to a dedicated
server and automatically (no manual intervention) distribute and update
all servers. 6. OTHER ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED: a. Performance
statistics. b. Response time when new viruses are detected. c.
Methodology for scanning incoming e-mail messages on Excange servers.
d. Support for future Windows NT based products (i.e. Windows 2000,
