COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 25,2000 PSA#2586Department of the Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command, 2531 Jefferson Davis
Highway, Arlington, VA 22242-5160 20 -- PODDED SHIP PROPULSION SYSTEMS SOL n/a POC David L. Boyer,
Contracting Officer, (703) 602-8208, X460. Technical contact is Kenneth
Tavener, SEA-05Z3, (703) 602-0450, X175 The Naval Sea Systems Command
is soliciting information from potential providers of commercial ship
podded propulsion systems (i.e. all parts of the propulsion system
except the prime mover), that can cost effectively meet non-combatant
ship mission requirements. The Navy is considering procuring and
testing candidate non-developmental commercial pod systems that are
electrically driven and do not contain any reduction gears. Examples of
information of interest to the Navy include, but are not limited to: 1.
Commercial systems currently in use and those on order, including
applications, power levels, types of hydrodynamic and propulsor designs
and machinery systems, etc. 2. Why the systems were chosen for the
applications, including cost effectiveness, maneuvering,
noise/vibration, efficiency/fuel costs, etc. 3. Types and sizes of pods
within corporate capabilities. 4. Corporate plans to produce higher
power systems in the next five years. 5. Whether the Company would
consider loaning a podded system, or components, to the Navy for
testing. The Navy is also interested in information on modifications to
commercial product lines which would be necessary to incorporate
additional quieting features, or enable units to withstand shock.
Potential suppliers should respond only if they currently produce
commercial electric drive propulsion systems between five and thirty
megawatts. No solicitation is available or specifically planned in the
immediate future. Interested parties having the required specialized
capabilities may submit a statement of ten pages or less. The
information requested is for information and planning purposes. All
responses shall be submitted to either the PCO or technical contact by
22 May 2000. Email responses can be sent to boyerdl@navsea.navy.mil or
tavenerke@navsea.navy.mil. Posted 04/21/00 (W-SN447481). (0112) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0145 20000425\20-0003.SOL)
