JANICE FINKELSTEIN, jfinkel@pica.army.mil. The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC
Product Manager for Small Arms, located at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ has a
requirement for a mature Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station
(CROWS). The CROWS is a light-weight, remote weaon station capable of
mounting the MK19 grenade machine gun (GMG), M2 HB machine gun (MG),
M240B machine gun(MG) or M249 squad automatic weapon (SAW). The system
is mounted on the host vehicle with the target acquisition and
engagement control capability inside the vehicle. The CROWS will
include: the weapon mount, an electronics support unit, a remote
control unit, fire control processor, sensors, and associated hardware.
The CROWS will be integrated into various turreted/non-turreted and
ring-mount equipped vehicles and will provide a modern automated weapon
system that enhances system lethality, increases battle space
awareness, and provides digital integration opportunities. The CROWS
will provide protection for the gunner and enhanced target acquisition,
identification, and engagement capabilities to non-turreted light
armored vehicles which currently place the unprotected gunner at high
risk from enemy direct and indirect fire weapon systems. The
acquisition will be divided into three distinct efforts which shall be
referred to as Task I, II, and III. Task I will be a six month effort
and will result in the delivery of two prototype CROWS systems meeting
the technical requirements described under this task. Task II will be
an 18 month development effort, performed concurrent with Task I and
will result in the delivery of six complete CROWS systems meeting
specific technical requirements. Task III will be a three month effort,
concurrent with Task II, to develop and deliver integration kits for
two vehicles, which will be used to conduct Development and Operational
Tests culminating in Type Classification. There will also be a
production option for up to an additional fifteen (15) CROWS units.
This procurement requires access to classified material controlled
under the American, British, Canadian and Australian (ABCA) Armies'
Standardization Program. Only industry from ABCA countries have been
determined to be eligible to participate at this time. Bidders must
possess a SECRET facility security clearance, subject to verification.
The present schedule projects release of a competitive Request for
Proposal (RFP)approximately in June 2000. Proposals shall be required
within forty-five (45)days after release of the RFP. All responses to
this notice shall be done so in writing in the English laguage. See
