The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC Product Manager for Small Arms, located at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ has a requirement for a mature Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS). The CROWS is a light-weight, remote weaon station capable of mounting the MK19 grenade machine gun (GMG), M2 HB machine gun (MG), M240B machine gun(MG) or M249 squad automatic weapon (SAW). The system is mounted on the host vehicle with the target acquisition and engagement control capability inside the vehicle. The CROWS will include: the weapon mount, an electronics support unit, a remote control unit, fire control processor, sensors, and associated hardware. The CROWS will be integrated into various turreted/non-turreted and ring-mount equipped vehicles and will provide a modern automated weapon system that enhances system lethality, increases battle space awareness, and provides digital integration opportunities. The CROWS will provide protection for the gunner and enhanced target acquisition, identification, and engagement capabilities to non-turreted light armored vehicles which currently place the unprotected gunner at high risk from enemy direct and indirect fire weapon systems. The acquisition will be divided into three distinct efforts which shall be referred to as Task I, II, and III. Task I will be a six month effort and will result in the delivery of two prototype CROWS systems meeting the technical requirements described under this task. Task II will be an 18 month development effort, performed concurrent with Task I and will result in the delivery of six complete CROWS systems meeting specific technical requirements. Task III will be a three month effort, concurrent with Task II, to develop and deliver integration kits for two vehicles, which will be used to conduct Development and Operational Tests culminating in Type Classification. There will also be a production option for up to an additional fifteen (15) CROWS units. This procurement requires access to classified material controlled under the American, British, Canadian and Australian (ABCA) Armies' Standardization Program. Only industry from ABCA countries have been determined to be eligible to participate at this time. Bidders must possess a SECRET facility security clearance, subject to verification. The present schedule projects release of a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP)approximately in June 2000. Proposals shall be required within forty-five (45)days after release of the RFP.
