BAE SYSTEMS subsidiary VSEL Projects Ltd. is in the process of establishingits US-based production for the XM777 Lightweight 155mm Howitzer. Production is scheduled to start in October 2001. Qualified firms are being sought for manufacture of sub-assemblies and structures of the howitzer as well as final assembly and test of the complete howitzer for delivery to the US Department of Defense. Firms respponding for manufacture of the howitzer structure must be qualified for welding and/or machining of titanium alloy 6Al4V. Interested companies may bid on any or all work packages to be made available to qualified firms. Work packages include: spade assemblies, stabilizer addemblies, traverse gear rack, body assembly, wheels and suspension, hydraulic systems, balance cylinders, accumulator cylinder, buffer yoke assembly, and breech opening and loading tray system.
