The equipment shall consist of a semi-automated x-ray inspection system to detect foreign debris and internal dimensional nonconformances, and to measure, record and store results via electronic format. The product to be x-rayed is approximately 6" in diameter, 36" in length and weighs 50 lbs. It consists of a cylindrical paper cellulose case cartridge attached to a metal base, with propellant grains and an ignition system components contained inside. This system shall have some type of conveyer /roller loading and off-loading capabilities, and be capable of inspecting 60 80 units in one (1) 8-hour shift. The x-ray cabinet shall be shielded to contain exposure, and a workstation for the x-ray technician shall be within close proximity of the x-ray system. Inspection data, including text annotation, will be stored on S-VHS tape and off-line on CD ROM. Estimated total cost of the project is between $100,000 and $250,000.
